Classroom displays
LFDs and projectors for better lessons.
The right display depends on the classroom. We help schools compare large format displays and projectors around image size, room lighting, teaching needs, installation and budget.
Direct comparison
Which option suits the room?
| Feature | Projectors | Large format displays |
|---|
| Best environment | Dark or dim rooms, halls and auditoriums. | Bright classrooms and rooms with changing daylight. |
|---|
| Screen size and cost | Cost-effective when a very large image is needed. | Standard sizes are predictable; very large screens become expensive. |
|---|
| Image quality | Can lose contrast and colour when light reaches the screen. | Sharp, bright and high contrast in normal classroom lighting. |
|---|
| Maintenance | Lamp or filter maintenance may be needed, depending on the model. | Low maintenance with long-life commercial panels. |
|---|
| Installation | Needs a screen, mounting, throw-distance planning and cable routes. | All-in-one installation with fewer external components. |
|---|
Projectors
The flexible choice for a very large image.
Advantages
- Very large images can be more affordable, particularly above 100 inches.
- The projector is compact and a retractable screen can keep the wall clear when not in use.
- Reflected light can provide a comfortable, theatre-like image in a dark room.
Things to consider
- Daylight can wash out contrast and colour unless brightness is carefully specified.
- Lamp-based models need replacement lamps, while filters and fans may need maintenance.
- Installation requires throw-distance planning, accurate alignment, mounting and cable routes.
Large format displays
The simple, bright choice for everyday teaching.
Advantages
- Commercial panels provide bright, crisp images in normal classroom lighting.
- Long-life displays need less routine maintenance and can start quickly between lessons.
- All-in-one units reduce the need for separate screens, speakers and external equipment.
- Presenters do not cast shadows across the image, and glare is easier to control.
Things to consider
- Very large sizes become heavier, harder to mount and more expensive.
- A commercial LFD can cost more upfront than a basic projector setup.
- The display uses permanent wall space and cannot be rolled away between lessons.
Our recommendation
Choose around the classroom, not a catalogue.
We can assess viewing distance, seating, daylight, wall space, accessibility, staff use, maintenance and total cost before recommending an LFD, projector or a mixture of both across the school.
